BY CAR

From the North (Munich):
From Munich, take the A8 towards Salzburg. At the Inntal motorway junction, change to the A93 towards Kufstein/Innsbruck. At Kufstein, the A93 becomes the Austrian A12. Leave the motorway at Kufstein Süd and follow the B173 and then the B178 towards St. Johann in Tirol. Continue towards Kirchdorf/Gasteig.

From the East (Salzburg):
From Salzburg, take the A1/A8 towards Bad Reichenhall. Continue along the B21 through Germany towards Lofer and then follow the B178 via Waidring and St. Johann in Tirol towards Kirchdorf/Gasteig.

From the West (Innsbruck):
Take the A12 Inntal motorway towards Kufstein and leave at Wörgl Ost. Follow the B178 towards St. Johann in Tirol and continue towards Kirchdorf/Gasteig.

From the South (Italy):
Take the A22/A13 Brenner motorway towards Innsbruck. At Innsbruck, change to the A12 towards Kufstein/Salzburg and continue to the Wörgl Ost exit. From there, follow the B178 towards St. Johann in Tirol and continue towards Kirchdorf/Gasteig.

Please note: A vignette is required to use most Austrian motorways. However, when arriving from Germany via Kufstein, the A12 is exempt from the vignette requirement up to and including the Kufstein Süd exit. This means you can travel from Munich to Gasteig via Kufstein Süd without purchasing an Austrian motorway vignette.

SACRED PLACES

The region surrounding Gasteig, St. Johann in Tirol, and the Wilder Kaiser is home to numerous special places that invite you to slow down, experience nature more consciously, and reconnect with yourself. Some have been places of contemplation for centuries, while others are defined primarily by the raw power and beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Maria Blut Hermitage: Situated high above St. Johann at the foot of the Niederkaiser, this historic hermitage is a special place of silence and contemplation. The path leading there passes through forests and meadows and is wonderful for a mindful or meditative hike.

Gmail Chapel: Above the hermitage, this extraordinary little Baroque chapel from 1782 is nestled directly into a rock face of the Niederkaiser. Its secluded location, the combination of rock, forest, and sacred space, and the views across the valley make it a particularly memorable destination.

Kaiserbach Valley: This expansive nature reserve at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser combines spaciousness, tranquility, and pristine Alpine scenery. It is a wonderful place for long walks, conscious time-outs, and quiet moments beneath the impressive peaks of the Kaiser Mountains.

Griesbach Gorge: Only a short distance from Gasteig, this gorge leads through a wild landscape of rock, forest, and clear mountain water. Walkways and suspension bridges follow the stream through the gorge, creating an immersive experience of the natural environment.

Schleier Waterfall: At the foot of the Wilder Kaiser, water cascades like a delicate veil across an imposing rock face. The waterfall can be incorporated into a hike through the Niederkaiser landscape and offers a beautiful place to pause and take in your surroundings.

Eifersbach Waterfall: This waterfall near St. Johann can be reached along a varied hiking trail. The combination of forest, rock, and flowing water makes it a beautiful destination if you would like to spend some time in nature after your session and allow the experience to continue unfolding.

Teufelsgasse: Despite its name ("Devil's Alley"), this mysterious rocky gorge above Kirchdorf is a fascinating natural site. The narrow path between towering rock walls can feel like entering a hidden world and is particularly suited to those who enjoy unusual landscapes and quiet forest trails.

Niederkaiser: The quieter eastern section of the Kaiser Mountains connects several of the region's most beautiful places. The hermitage, Gmail Chapel, forests, viewpoints, and waterfalls can be combined into a longer hike, making this an ideal area if you would like to combine time in nature with inner reflection.
